Cool Cat

Another color challenge (CC61). This time, the colors were Certainly Celery, Cameo Coral, and Basic Black. We were also allowed to use Apricot Appeal if it was necessary. Lucky for me though, it really wasn't. I saw the colors, went into my room and pulled out those colors of card stock, and as soon as they were in front of my face, I thought "ooh - retro!" This finally got me to mount my Cool Cat set (I've had it for more than a year and never mounted it.). Once I'd stamped the cat onto he Whisper White CS and mounted the image on a layer, I thought that the card needed a little somethin'-somethin'. When I started to lay out the card, I felt like it needed more than just the kitty, so I went hunting for scraps with the intention of using something from there to give the card a little more depth, and eventually found this package of Magic Mesh, and woo hoo! The Earths package has a coral piece in there - perfect!

When I mounted the cat to the front, I first did it right in the middle. But I'd already stamped the greeting on the bottom right corner, and the cat in the middle kind of covered that up. Moving the cat off to the side worked out pretty well too, and I'm glad I did it, because I think it kind of balances out the card.

Heartfelt Thanks, color challenge

I made this card in response to a SCS color challenge (CC59). Colors listed were Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, and Not Quite Navy. Since I'd just used Heartfelt Thanks for something else, it was easy to pick that one up again and use it with totally different colors.

Heartfelt Thanks

New card, with Heartfelt Thanks:



This was in response to a technique challenge on SCS - TLC61, Pencil Over. What you do is stamp an image in White Craft Ink on a dark paper, and let it dry (either it sits overnight, or you "fast-forward" with a heat tool). Then color the image (including over the white ink) with watercolor pencils. It really allows the image to "pop", which is especially nice on dark card stock.

This one used Heartfelt Thanks and Itty Bitty Backgrounds stamps; Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip card stock; and White Craft and Chocolate Chip Classic ink. Accessories included Watercolor Pencils, Heat Tool, Square Brads, 1/8" hole punch. I definitely like this technique, and will look for more opportunities to try this.

This is one of the first cards I made after a long stamping hiatus. It was in response to one of the Splitcoast Stampers' color challenges (CC60), where the colors given were Close to Cocoa, Certainly Celery, So Saffron, and Bordering Blue. Probably not colors I would have chosen on my own (No pink? No purple? I didn't know you could do that!). I did make a little mask to get the flower stems right on top of the flower pot, but other than that, a basic card that almost anyone can do.
